Fadli Zon Push Nusantara Acsences Present in Global Digital Space

Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, says the oral tradition and traditional writing systems are the wealth of Nusantara that must be preserved through global digital space.

He delivered Indonesia, which is a very high cultural diversity country (mega cultural diversity), with about 1,340 ethnic groups, 718 native languages, and dozens of traditional writing systems or Nusantara characters.

Bali, Java, Sunda, Batak, Lontara, until Pegon was judged not only by visual character, but by identity, the tools of scientific storage, and the links to civilization between generations.

"The advancement of technology should embrace cultural submission. It was delivered by Fadli Zion at the gala meeting of the Annual General of the '87 Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN87) which took place in Nusa Two, Babong, Bali, Monday (19 / 10).

The ICANN87 Enforcement became a historic moment because it was the first public meeting that was held in Indonesia. This event coincides with the anniversary of the Indonesian National Cultural Day and the International Day of the UniESCO Cultural Heresy. On that occasion, Fadli Zon also received the launch of the name Domain International or Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) based on Nusantara characters which are Bali, Java and Pegon characters.

Fadli also explains that digitization of language is a concrete move to preserve endangered language. UNESCO records, from about 7,000 languages in the world, about 1,000 languages represented online.

Facing the challenges of the digital age, it's on the side of encouraging traditional cultural integration into global Internet infrastructure to keep its existence awake.

"1945 Article 32 has managed to supply national culture in the midst of civilization. Culture must remain alive, relevant, and actively used by society, including in the digital world. Technical recognition of our characters through the name of Domain International is proof that technology can be a powerful instrument of preserving cultural heritage," clearly.

Fadli Zon also appreciates the name of the Indonesian Internet Domain for research and hard work bringing Bali, Java, and Pegon to global Internet ecosystem, as well as continuing efforts to develop support for Sunda, Batak and Bugis.

Besides, Fadli underlined four strategic pillars to minimize the risk of language and character extinction. To make sure that the effort had a real impact on society, he called a number of concrete steps, which is documentation and cultural research, education and public participation, technological interoperability and cross-sector synergy.

"Our technical confession to our characters is an important milestone. However, our greater ambition is to ensure that this tradition of writing can be studied, accessed and used actively by society. It requires continued cooperation in some areas, such as colleges, cultural institutions, and my users of traditional knowledge," its exposition.

Closing his speech, Fadli Zon hoped that the launch of the International Domain name for Bali, Java, and Pegon could inspire sustainable innovation, strengthen cultural literature, and open up all new possibilities for other writing traditions in Indonesia and around the world.
