The Turkish government is getting ready to run the UN Climate Change Conference event 31 (COP31) which will be held in Antalya, Turkey, on November 9-20, 2026. The Turks are targeting a real project in climate with adequate funding for sustainable development.
"Turkey's approach to climate issue connects our historical heritage that has lasted for 12,000 years in life in harmony with nature, which began from the ancient Göbekli Tepe website, to modern leadership in creating clean zero emissions targets," the Turkish Consular Communication of the Indonesian Burak Guns in ESG Now Leadership Forum and Awards 2026, Republika at the Hotel Borobudur, Monday (10).
He explained that the location of the COP31 event, which is in Antalya, is a beautiful city located on the Mediterranean Sea coast, will play a global bridge that brings together a real international deal on the local level.
"Over the years, international climate meetings have produced many great promises. However, the real action in the field was too slow. Through COP31 in Antalya, the Turks want to change this. We define COP31 as an implementation conference, which is a conference that focuses on real implementation," the announcement.
Gunes explains that the main philosophy of COP31 development is a commitment to show intent, and to empower implementation in building trust.
"In the midst of the world facing many political and economic challenges, we can only rebuild trust if climate-related promises are made to be a real project with adequate funding," the tour.
Further, Gunes explained, the location of the COP31 conference is divided into two major areas. First, the Blue Zone or the Blue Zone is an official area run by the United Nations. In that area, heads of state, ministers, and negotiators officially formulate global policy and national contributions.
Second, the Green Zone or the Green Zone is a dynamic public space. In that zone, entrepreneurs, universities, young generations, and civil society display real eco-friendly technology as well as a circuit economic solution.
"In addition, the entire series of conferences applied ISO 20121's continuation standards, by eliminating disposable plastic use, implementing total recycling, and presenting Caretta, the official mascot of sea turtles, to highlight the importance of marine protection," the announcement.
Guns continue, in the deployment of COP31, the Turkish government rests on three principles. It's a dialogue to build trust, a consensus to cooperate, and an action to produce a measurable achievement.
"To create real changes in various industrial and public sectors, the President of COP31 with the International Energy Agency (The International Energy Agency or IEA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (International Renewable Energy Agency or IRENA) has set three quantum targets for 2035," the tour.
First, the target of global electrification is 35 percent. That is, increasing the electricity portion in total global energy consumption by 35 percent by 2035.
Second, a 50 percent reduction in waste growth. The target intended to cut off half the global waste growth in 2035 through the zero waste or garbage-free movement spearheaded by His Majesty's First Lady Emine Erdoğan. It can directly reduce methane gas emissions that have a strong impact on global warming.
Third, 25 percent of the energy reduction. The target aims to lower the intensity of energy consumption on the building at least 25 percent by 2035. Thus, families can be protected from the height of the energy bill and reduce emissions.
Guns continue on about the main problems facing developing countries in fact are not a lack of commitment. The main issue, he said, is the gap between climate-related promises and the funding of projects that are actually available.
"Turkey introduced two practical mechanisms to bridge the gap. First, the Climate Implement Bridge or the Implementation Climate Bridge,
It changed the commitment of climate still abstract, including NDC, into a concrete and worthy investment project plan. That way, those projects can get funding from commercial banks, multilateral development banks, and international investors.
Second, the Sustainable Urban Residence Financial Facility or Continuous Containment Facility. The facility was formed on the agenda COP31 by Ilbank, UNHabitat, and the World Bank.
"The mechanism connects local government projects in water, waste management, transportation, and urban infrastructure directly to the source of global financing through state platforms, the center of excellence, as well as international dialogue," obviously.
