The principal of kindergarten in China is sentenced to life after 247 poisoned students

A principal in Chinese kindergarten was sentenced to life in prison after 247 students at school had mass poisoning.

The principal of Heshi Peixin preschool in the Maji District named Zhu Jinglin and head of Li Huifang's school, is accused of instructing and organizing toxic materials for food served to children and staff, to look more colorful and interesting to sell.

In addition to both school leaders, six other people were also convicted of producing and selling poisonous food and dangerous to hundreds of students.

Xinhua Diansir, according to the verdict issued by the People's Court in Lanzhou in Gansu, Li was sentenced to life in prison, stripped of his political rights for life, and his personal property seized by 500,000 Yuan (around Rp1.3 billion).

While Zhu Jinglin was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fine 300 thousand yuan (around Rp800 million). Four kitchen workers were sentenced between six and eight years in prison, each with a fine, for executing instructions.

According to investigation reports released in July 2025, these foods have been served to children and staff every month since May 2024.

Of the 251 tested children, 247 had lead levels in abnormal blood. All 247 children with lead levels in abnormal blood undergoing domestic residency or nutritional intervention.

On July 20, 2025, most affected children have completed their first treatment and have been discharged from the hospital.

According to the investigation report in July, state discipline authorities have investigated 10 local officials, including the director of the state health commission and leader of Tianshui City. The Gansu Province government has promised full support for the children's medical care.
