Miley Cyrus Responds to Criticism That She Was Too Lazy to Sing Her Hit Songs at Her Own Concert

Miley Cyrus has responded to criticism regarding her performance at her concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday (16 October). During the first night of the concert, netizens accused Miley Cyrus of being too lazy to sing.

The criticism arose because Cyrus frequently pointed the microphone at members of the audience who were singing along whilst her hit songs were being played. However, according to netizens, the audience had paid for their tickets to hear Miley Cyrus sing.

During her second night’s performance on Sunday (18 October) – as reported by Variety on Monday (19 October) – Cyrus said she had almost not gone on stage.

“I’ve never heard anyone say that I don’t put my whole heart into something,” said Cyrus in a video recorded by a fan during the concert.

“I don’t know if you’ve heard anyone making clickbait comments about my performance last Friday night, but I’m a multifaceted person, and we don’t need to respond to that sort of thing.”

Variety noted that Cyrus’s debut performance at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday (16 October) marked her return to live performances since 2022.

However, the concert drew criticism because Cyrus did not sing every word of her songs, including hits such as ‘Party in the USA’ and ‘Flowers’.

During the second concert on Sunday, Cyrus touched on the matter whilst performing ‘Bass Persuades’, the lead single from her latest album. “Oh, I’d forgotten I was supposed to sing every bloody line!” she said.

Cyrus revealed to the audience on the second night that performing on stage “no longer feels as natural as it used to”. However, these two shows at the Hollywood Bowl were “more than just an experiment” for her.

“That’s not what I meant at all,” she added. “This isn’t an experiment involving you. It’s an experience for me. And it’s all of you who have made this experience possible.”

“Before I went on stage for ‘Orbit’, I actually thought about not going on stage and just running away,” she said.

“But I would never let you sit in those seats feeling dissatisfied after watching the concert,” said Miley Cyrus.

“I can cope with a lot of things, but one thing I won’t tolerate is any doubt about where my heart is when I’m on stage. I am fully present here."

As reported by USA Today on Monday (19 October), the news of Miley taking to the concert stage sparked tremendous enthusiasm amongst her fans. Nearly 1.5 million fans queued up for the presale of her concert at the Hollywood Bowl.

In an interview with Zane Lowe from Apple Music, the pop star quipped that this high demand proved she didn’t need to go on tour.

“That was indeed my idea,” Miley told Lowe. “This is the real dress rehearsal. Through this ticket queue, I’ve realised that my calculations were spot on—it’s the people who will come to me. I don’t need to go out of my way to come to you.”
