Author of Reveal Inspiration Behind The Story of Whalefall

Writer Daniel Kraus reveals inspiration behind Whalefall, a novel now adapted to a big-screen movie. The novel tells of the struggle of someone swallowed alive by a sperm whale.

The initial inspiration of this story, based on a written statement that was received on Wednesday (14 / 10), apparently began when Kraus witnessed a video of two surfers nearly swallowed by a whale in the middle of the ocean.

Leaving the curious, Kraus spent weeks consulting with a row of scientists and marine biologists to dissect the anatomy of a sperm whale.

From the results of such deep research, Kraus discovered the scientific fact that although it has never been recorded in modern history, human incidents swallowed by sperm whales are not biologically impossible phenomena.

Not only that, he took a philosophy of the scientific term whale fall which was a process when whale carcass sank to the bottom of the ocean and became the foundation of new life for the marine ecosystem.

"When someone dies, his death is just the beginning. Physically they don't exist, but their lives continue to spread to everyone who knows them," Daniel Kraus said.

Shortly after the novel came out in 2023, Kraus and Director Brian Duffield immediately started their film adaptation script.

Whalefall told of the struggle Jay Gardiner swallowed a giant sperm whale while diving for the body of the father Mitt Gardiner.

With less than 60 minutes of oxygen, he thought hard about finding a way to survive and come out of the whale's stomach.

The process of taking pictures of the production team to a number of California coastal locations, such as Monterey, San Pedro, Catalina Island, to the stage sets of the Radford CBS studios in Studio City.

Duffield also put together a line of Hollywood's best-selling soap to execute the visual and sound of Whalefall, among which was the director of Aaron Morton's sinematography.

There is also the artistic artist Ramsey Avery, the editor of the picture of Oscar Pietro Scalia (Black Hawk Down), the visual-effect supervisor Guillaume Rocheron (1917, Life of Pi), and a Joseph Trapanese music artist.

Whalefall began October 14 at the Indonesian cinema.
