Police Foil Street Brawl in East Jakarta: 20 People Arrested, Bladed Weapons and Corrosive Liquids Seized

The Metro Jaya Regional Police, through the Precision Pioneer Patrol Team of the Samapta Directorate, together with female police officers, apprehended 20 young men suspected of intending to take part in a street brawl in the Bassura area, East Jakarta (Jaktim). Sharp weapons and corrosive liquids were seized.

The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday (20 October 2026) in Bassura, East Jakarta. The operation began following a tip-off from the public received by officers at approximately 01:23 WIB regarding a suspected street brawl in the area.

A patrol team immediately went to the scene, carried out checks and dispersed the group of youths suspected of planning to take part in the brawl.

“During the operation, officers also seized a number of items, including one machete, one cleaver, a liquid suspected to be corrosive acid, 12 mobile phones, and three motorbikes,” said Director of Samapta at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Wahyu Dwi Ariwibowo, in his statement, Tuesday (20/10).

All of these items were seized for further investigation. A total of 20 youths who were detained have been taken to the headquarters of the Metro Jaya Police’s Samapta Directorate.

“At around 04.30 WIB, all of them were handed over to the officers on duty for further examination and investigation in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.

This patrol also highlights the importance of the community’s role in assisting the police to prevent security disturbances at an early stage. Information provided by residents enabled officers to act swiftly before potential clashes escalated and resulted in casualties.

Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, emphasised that the police’s presence within the community is not solely for the purpose of enforcement. Rather, it is also to protect the safety of residents, including young people, from the risk of violence.

“Through the spirit of ‘Police Together with the Community’, we want to ensure the neighbourhood remains safe and that young people do not become involved in violence that could jeopardise their future,” he said.

“We urge parents and the community to work together to keep a watchful eye and to report immediately via the police hotline 110 if they become aware of potential gang fights or other security disturbances,” he concluded.
