Selena Gomez Reveals How Her Nicotine Vaping Habit Changed Her Voice: ‘Not Worth It’

Selena Gomez has admitted that her former habit of frequently using nicotine vapes has altered her voice, which is her main asset as a singer.

In a social media post on Sunday (18 October), Gomez urged her fans to steer clear of nicotine vapes, saying the consequences were not worth it.

“I won’t be able to get my voice back to the way it was,” said Gomez, as reported by Variety on Monday (19 October). “I used to vape nicotine a lot.”

"It’s really hard to quit nicotine, and I just want to say that if you’re going through it, or even just trying vaping out of curiosity, it’s absolutely not worth it. It’s a really stupid thing to do, and the consequence is that my voice has changed."

Gomez added that she understands if any fans feel uncomfortable listening to her voice, and she invites them to stop listening if they really don’t like it.

She admitted she was pleased to have successfully quit and hopes to keep it up, even though the process was very difficult.

“However, I know that if you’re facing a problem, you’ll get through it too,” she said. “It really is a terrible experience.”

Variety reported that during a live social media broadcast in December 2025, Gomez made no mention of vaping. At the time, she merely explained that the inside of her throat sometimes swelled up.

Over the years, Gomez has been quite open about her health. She has lupus and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017.

Gomez has also spoken openly about her diagnosis of bipolar disorder, including in the 2022 documentary *Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me*.
