Sex Pistols Throw Fan Out Because He Didn't Let Women Moshen in Peace
At a concert, the band created a moshpit just for women. When a visitor resisted, punk singer Frank Carter rested. The fan’s father has apologized for his “idiotic son”.
Singer Carter: “Come back when you learn kindness!”
Frank Carter had made a clear announcement: The men should step aside so that the women in the audience could use the moshpit for themselves. But at a Sex Pistols concert on October 9 at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, a visitor did not stick to it. In doing so, he attracted the anger of singer Carter. He covered him with a tirades of insult that beautifully combined the speaking traditions of punk with those of mindful consideration, and then had him thrown out.
The man had apparently tried to sneak into the newly created women’s moshpit. According to media reports, Carter folded the young man right off the stage. Every single time some damned man comes and tells me that women can do it all the time. But they can’t, because they go to the moshpit and get an elbow to the head from some damned idiot. ‘
The fan then shook his head, which made Carter even more angry. "Are you stupid?" he cried to the man. “You haven’t seen it, so just shut up!” The crowd applauded. “You’re still shaking your stupid head.” You know what, instead of crouching down, why don’t you just leave? the singer continued. “Why is it so hard for you to bear that there is a room only for women at a Sex Pistols concert?”
The next day, Carter posted on Instagram. “If you are a man who is bothered by a band making room for a pure women’s moshpit, then you are part of the problem,” he wrote. “Stay home, read a book by Bell hooks, come back when you have learned kindness, compassion and empathy.” Incels, homophobes, misogynists, racists, fascists are not welcome. “When I talk about a women-only moshpit... I mean, of course, a trans-inclusive space.”
Carter also published a message that he said came from the expelled visitor’s father, who apologized for his “idiotic son.” "That's not how he was brought up, that's not how he was taught." His sisters are mad at him. He himself watched the concert from the balcony and only afterwards learned that it was about his son.
The Sex Pistols formed in 1975, released an album and disbanded in 1978. In 2024, original members Steve Jones, Glen Matlock and Paul Cook revived the band. With their old singer Johnny Rotten, they had meanwhile so crashed that they instead brought the 42-year-old Carter on board. Johnny Rotten, whose real name is John Lydon, said last year that the band had become “woke” to him.
