Singapore Ancam Denda 10 Karhutla RI Rp 28 Billion!

Singapore threatened to use various instruments of law and regulation that had to suppress the entity related to forest fires and land in Indonesia, causing a smog disaster in its region.

This move was made after the Pride State Government, through the Singapore National Environment Agency (National Environment Agency / NEA) sent a reprimand to 10 companies suspected of being involved with the carhutla.

The Straits Times, Tuesday (20 / 10 / 2026), the 10 companies are known to have plantations in the southern Sumatra region and Kalimantan that became a point of fire a source of smoke that carried to Singapore.

Along with that reprieve, NEA has issued a legal notice to 10 related companies. According to Singapore's Cross-air Fog Disorder, they were asked to stop burning on their land, and submit plans on how the company plans to prevent that from happening again.

Then NEA issued a notice to six companies, and closed two cases. While the investigation into the other four is still ongoing. But based on the examination by The Strits Times, three of the 10 companies were repeated offenders who had also been notified in 2015.

Those found guilty based on the Act can be finalized up to $100,000 or Rp 1.4 billion (Kurt Rp 14,000 per dollar.

Senior Minister K. Shanmugam warned companies that they can't hide behind complex corporate structures, or try to avoid responsibility just because burnt farms are in Indonesia while they're based in Singapore.

For example, it says that the company can't claim that the fire came from outside their farm, but it spread within their borders.

He added that if the company didn't cooperate, the Singapore government would investigate who they were connected to before deciding the next move. But instead of hitting individual concession holders, Shanmugam confirmed the action to be taken also applies to large companies behind them.

In addition to using the legal path, Shanmugam also said Singapore will reach another mechanism to punish the carhutla offenders. Including the economic steps to put pressure on companies involved at the most important point, like on their net profit.
