Singapore Reveals a Further Three Indonesian Companies Suspected of Being Linked to Forest and Land Fires, Bringing the Total to 10

The Singaporean government has named a further three Indonesian companies in connection with the forest and land fires (karhutla) causing haze in the country. With these additions, a total of 10 Indonesian companies are now subject to Singapore’s measures.

The three companies are suspected of having links to land fires in Kalimantan. Previously, Singapore had sent notices to seven Indonesian companies in connection with fires in Sumatra.

As reported by CNA on Tuesday (20 October 2026), Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) has indicated that smoke from fires on land under the concessions of these three companies may have reached Singapore.

The three companies in question are PT Buana Megatama Jaya, PT Mananjung Hayak and PT Baratama Putra Perkasa. The NEA will send notification letters to these three companies under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act (THPA).

Through this notice, the companies are required to deploy firefighting personnel to extinguish the fires or prevent their spread on land they own or occupy.

The companies must also cease any ongoing burning activities, refrain from starting new fires, and submit an action plan to the NEA to extinguish the fires and prevent them from recurring.

Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu, stated that these three additional companies are located in Kalimantan. Meanwhile, the seven companies that previously received notices have yet to respond to the Singaporean government.

Grace emphasised that the Singaporean government continues to monitor the actions of these seven companies. Her department will not hesitate to take further action based on the available information and evidence.

“We are committed to investigating all companies found to be responsible for causing cross-border haze in Singapore and will not hesitate to take further action under the THPA based on the information and evidence available,” Grace emphasised.

Previously, Singapore had also identified seven Indonesian companies suspected of causing forest and land fires.
