Dispute with Zelensky: Will Trump’s folly return to normal?
The president needs a culprit for the high fuel prices before the congressional elections. But even after that, times will hardly be easier for Ukrainians and other Europeans.
You do not know what Schröder gave his bosom friend Putin for his birthday when he paid him his respects. But it could not possibly have been greater than the gifts of love that Trump gives to the esteemed colleague in Moscow. The American president not only suspends the sanctions that would have hit Russian oil and gas exports, with which Putin finances his war in Ukraine. At the same time, the Americans are massively weakening the defensive power of Ukrainians by at least temporarily withdrawing satellite reconnaissance and reducing access to the Starshield network. In short: Trump strengthens the aggressor and abandons the invaded. For Trump, Zelensky is the villain that he does not do for the first time, but as close as now he has never come to a complete change of sides. Even Trump cannot believe that he can force Ukraine to surrender before the congressional elections. But with his resolutions, Trump supports his adventurous claim that he is to blame for the high fuel prices that threaten the Republicans to conceal Election Day: not himself, who started the foolish war against Iran, or even the benefactor Putin, who now supplies diesel to poor Americans, but Zelensky, who dares to attack Russian refineries to make it difficult to supply the Russian invasion army and replenish its war chest. Will Trump’s strategic folly after election day at least go back to its usual level? You cannot rely on that. Putin still lures him with big business. In addition, the Kremlin offers mediation services to the White House in the war in the Gulf, which hurts Trump a thousand times more than the Russian war of aggression in Europe. The Ukrainians are therefore in danger of facing even more difficult times. And so also to the Europeans who live west of them. If Ukraine falls into Putin’s hands, he will be satisfied with it as little as Hitler satisfied the Sudetenland and the “remaining Czech Republic”.
