UEFA Questions and Ultimatum for Infantino

UEFA Questions and Ultimatum for Infantino

With a comprehensive questionnaire including an ultimatum, UEFA has called for clarification on Gianni Infantino’s plans for the World Cup investors. The European Football Association requested an answer by 2 November. UEFA submitted 42 detailed questions about the failed plans as well as other incidents to the criticized boss of the World Federation FIFA Gianni Infantino. The letter is available to the German Press Agency. The Swiss has so far provided no documents about his plan, which was abandoned after heavy criticism, to sell 20 percent of the commercial rights to World Cup and other competitions for more than four billion dollars. Around two weeks after the World Cup final in the USA, FIFA announced at the end of July that it would sell part of its commercial rights to investors. On the night of the first of August, Infantino abandoned the plans after broad resistance. The now sent questionnaire is the next round in the power struggle resulting from the investor conflict between Infantino and his European critics. At a crisis meeting of the FIFA Council on 15 October in Zurich, there were according to DFB chief Bernd Neuendorf only "thin" answers. UEFA would like to receive comprehensive answers about Infantino’s personal compensation package, the disciplinary proceedings against US striker Folarin Balogun during the World Cup, business and political relations with Donald Trump and his family, and the operational independence of FIFA’s legal, election and ethics committees. UEFA has asked U.S. federal courts to approve subpoenas that force the submission of documents and affidavits regarding the abandoned investment plan called “FIFA Forward Enterprise.” While UEFA acknowledges that the plan has been withdrawn and mistakes have been admitted, this would not answer how relevant decisions were made. “These questions now need answers,” the UEFA letter said.
