Watch out for Sunday's Heavy Rain
BMKG issued an early rain warning for October 17-19, 2026. Some parts of Indonesia are potentially downpour. Listen to the list!
A number of areas in Indonesia are potentially watered with the intensity of being so dense today, Sunday (18 / 10). Check out the next list.
Meteorology, climatology, and Geophysics issued an early rain warning for October 17-19, 2026.
In that warning, BMKG calls a number of areas such as Western Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Jambi, Bengalu, West Kalimantan, Middle Kalimantan, that Papua may have a potential downpour of heavy or alert status.
In the meantime, Aceh and the Northern Sumatra have a high-rain alert. There is no visible area or early warning of strong winds today.
Here's a list of potentially heavy rain areas:
About 76 percent of the Season Zone (ZOM) in Indonesia is still experiencing drought, especially in Java, Bali, Southeast Nusa, and Sulawusi. Meanwhile, about 8 percent of ZOM has entered the rainy season.
In the Indonesian Weather Predictation a week period 16-22 October 2026, BMKG explains the conditions potentially extend meteorological drought in a number of areas that still lack rain. The region includes southern Sumatra, Java, Bali, Southeast Nusa, some of Kalimantan and Morawesi, and South Papua.
Despite general rainfall, it's been initiated in low-to-middle categories, the chances of rain still exist in a number of areas. regional and local atmospheric dynamics can support forming rain clouds in a relatively short time.
MaddenMeanwhile, the Rossby Equatorial wave was initiated in the Indian Ocean to the west of Sumatra.
Kelvin's waves are also initiated in part of the Southern Sumatra, Bgeku Belitung, most of Kalimantan, southern coast of Java, most of the Sulawesi, Southeast Nusa, Maluku, Northern Maluku, and Papua. The atmospheric wave activity is potentially supporting local cloud growth.
The pattern of meeting and wind-slowing in a number of Sumatra regions, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and Papua supports air mass reduction and rain cloud growth. The relatively warm sea face temperature in the surrounding waters also helps provide water vapor in the atmosphere.
"The combination has potentially triggered heavy rain, with heavy intensity, with lightning and strong winds locally," write BMKG in that premise.
