Watch: Shops looted and restaurants gutted in Paris riots

Violence broke out across France over the weekend, as demonstrations against conditions in schools and the cost of living turned into riots.

At least 1,200 people were arrested during what the French government described as an "escalation in violence", as shopfronts were smashed and stores looted.

For shop owners, Sunday morning marked the start of clean-up efforts, with some reporting damages and stolen goods amount to €100,000 (£85,000).

The BBC's James Waterhouse reports from the streets of Paris outside damaged buildings.
