CNN: “These are terrible media makers”

Respected reporter Christiane Amanpour leaves CNN. And she's not the only one. Tech expert Kara Swisher finds clear words for the new owners, Trump friends Ellison.

CNN: “These are terrible media makers”

US news channel CNN threatens after the acquisition of its parent company Warner Bros. Bleeding Discovery Personnel? After several other well-known journalists, Christiane Amanpour is now leaving the station next June. The new owners should be right to replace some of the biggest names of the station with their own people. Amanpour, 68, is the station’s international chief reporter and one of America’s most renowned journalists. For forty-three years she has been reporting on CNN from the crisis areas of the world. For her interviews with heads of state, the daughter of an Iranian and a British woman has been awarded many times. In May, she, like many of her colleagues, expressed skepticism about Trump friends Larry and David Ellison, who have called the company Paramount their own for more than a year and have subjected the news channel CBS to a “reorientation”. This fell victim to the entire leadership of the magazine “60 Minutes” and the long-time reporter Scott Pelley, the rating collapsed. Looking at CNN, Larry Ellison is reported to be visiting the White House for the Warner Bros merger. Discovery and Paramount spoke with Trump about program changes and the dismissal of CNN presenters Brianna Keilar and Erin Burnett. Speaking at a journalism conference in New York, Amanpour said, “Of course, I am concerned as a person and as a journalist, not least about what has happened elsewhere, such as CBS News,” referring to the “ideological realignment” of the station by Ellisons-installed news director Bari Weiss. She could only hope, Amanpour said, that “the absolutely basic things like editorial independence” persisted. This was actually due to a spin-off of CNN and other cable stations from the Warner Bros. Inventory will be guaranteed as demanded by California prosecutor Rob Bonta along with eleven other states in a lawsuit against the merger of the two entertainment groups. But then Bonta caved in September under considerable political pressure and in the face of Paramount’s threat to leave California. Now CNN, one of the last anti-government channels in the US media landscape could fall apart. Other notable journalists already have CNN after the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery turned his back. Paula Reid, the channel’s chief legal reporter, declined an extension of her contract at the end of June. She is hiring, according to media reports, at MS Now. Reid is said to have expressed her concerns about CNN’s future course in conversations with editorial management. “I would rather work for Rupert Murdoch” Tech reporter Kara Swisher recently said she would not renew her contract with CNN at the end of the year. Swisher is a reporter, presenter, panelist and producer of the documentary series Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever. When he left, he became clear. “Fuck those guys,” she said of the Paramount owners in her podcast “Pivot” to her co-host Scott Galloway, “I’d rather work for Rupert Murdoch.” You have tried at CNN with all means and “all kindness” to keep them, Swisher, but: I just can not work for them. These are terrible media makers. According to a report in the “New York Times”, Anderson Cooper, who makes the primetime magazine “360°” on CNN, is also considering throwing in the towel. Cooper, who served as the correspondent for 60 Minutes for twenty years, had quit CBS News in May (as a reason he said he wanted to spend more time with his children). According to the Times, which refers to two unnamed colleagues, Cooper told colleagues that he was considering leaving CNN if Bari Weiss came to the helm. Paramount chief David Ellison said the current head of CNN, Mark Thompson, would remain in office and CNN separate from CBS. How long this constellation applies, however, many media observers are already wondering. CNN has faced a series of scandals in recent years over leaders, moderators and programming. Only under Thompson did a little quiet return. With 25 offices outside the US, the station is one of the most internationally oriented networks and stands out with its reporting from crisis areas. According to the rating, CNN ranked among the US news stations, however, beaten down to third place behind Fox News and MS Now.

Outcry on the left: The Jew should simply emigrate

From the Facebook account of the left-wing politician Jörg Johann from Trier, the Jewish publicist Malca Goldstein-Wolf gets the advice that she should leave the country. That was a hacker, says the politician. Is that credible?
