Adaro Andalan Begins Share Buyback Today

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — PT Adaro Andalan Indonesia Tbk (AADI) began a phased share buyback on Tuesday (20 October 2026). This corporate action will run until 22 May 2027.

Adaro Andalan’s management stated that the buyback forms part of the implementation of the resolution passed at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) for the 2025 financial year, held on 22 May 2026.

“This move reflects management’s confidence in the company’s fundamental business conditions whilst supporting the stabilisation of the Indonesian capital market,” the company stated in a press release on Tuesday (20 October 2026).

The company emphasised that it remains focused on business development in Indonesia. In carrying out the buyback, the company stated that it would prioritise the principles of good corporate governance (GCG) and comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Amidst this corporate action, the Indonesian capital market has also come under the spotlight following an announcement by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) on 15 October 2026 regarding a consultation on plans to reclassify the Indonesian market from an ‘Emerging Market’ to a ‘Standalone Market’.

IDX Chief Executive Jeffrey Hendrik said the IDX had held an online meeting with MSCI on Tuesday (20 October 2026), following the announcement of the consultation on the reclassification of the Indonesian market. However, he did not disclose any details or conclusions from the meeting.

The IDX is also preparing two new initiatives to strengthen capital market transparency. Firstly, adding a note on affiliation status to the publication of shareholder names holding a 1 per cent stake. Secondly, excluding all shares with high shareholding concentration (HSC) from the calculation of the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG).

Jeffrey emphasised that this policy does not mean HSC shares will be delisted from the exchange. These shares will still be tradable, but their price movements will no longer influence the IHSG. Currently, HSC-category shares account for around 18 per cent, whilst the effective date for the implementation of these two initiatives will be announced at a later date.

Although it has begun implementing a share buyback, Adaro has not yet disclosed details regarding the budget or the number of shares to be repurchased.
