Breaking: Putin, Xi Jinping and Trump Set to Meet in a ‘Six-Party’ Meeting

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Kremlin has stated that the Presidents of Russia, China and the United States (US) may meet in person. The three leaders are set to hold a “six-way” meeting at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in China next month.

However, the Kremlin added that there are as yet no concrete proposals regarding the meeting or the agenda to be discussed. The Kremlin also emphasised that no final agreement to end the war in Ukraine can be reached without Kyiv’s participation.

“Given that the three heads of state may attend the summit in China, the topic of such a hypothetical meeting was indeed briefly raised,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, as quoted by AFP on Tuesday (20 October 2026).

“However, no substantive proposals or agreements – whether regarding the meeting itself or its agenda and content – have been discussed or put forward by any party,” he stressed.

Previously, The Wall Street Journal also reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted a summit with President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump to discuss the war in Ukraine, in the hope of brokering a peace deal favourable to Moscow. The report cited unnamed sources familiar with the discussions.

The APEC Summit is due to take place in Shenzhen, China, on 18–19 November. All three countries are members of APEC.

Meanwhile, Trump has signalled his willingness to meet with his counterparts from Russia and China in November. He said the meeting would focus on denuclearisation.

Trump also renewed his criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He said that “it is time for someone else to negotiate on Ukraine’s behalf”.
