A three-hour documentary develops in the USA to the surprise success of the cinema year: "You Can See Everything" about the impostor Elizabeth Holmes on his launch weekend in North America 15 million US dollars, as the industry service "Hollywood Reporter" reported. In the US, the film had more than 2000 sold-out screenings. He thus achieved the most successful start of a documentary since Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” from 2004.
The film, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, accompanies Theranos founder Holmes during the last days before her imprisonment. The 42-year-old was sentenced in November 2022 to more than eleven years and to pay 452 million dollars in damages. Later, an appeals court shortened the prison sentence by two years.
The story of Holmes and her fraudulent blood test company Theranos was told in 2022 in the miniseries »The Dropout« with Amanda Seyfried in the lead role. While the series was fictional, Fielder and Oppenheim spent a lot of time with the real Elizabeth Holmes.
In addition to this unique approach, the success of their film may have been due to the clever marketing strategy that the production company A24 developed for the film. "You Can See Everything" was filmed in secret over three years. The fact that the documentary even exists became known only when it ran as a surprise premiere at the Telluride Festival in September. The first reviews from Telluride were already euphoric. This was followed by A24 with the release of a bizarre trailer, which further fueled interest in the film.
