Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced that he will give every child in the US a share of the space company SpaceX. This will be his first step of this kind “of many”, Musk wrote on his online platform X. He was silent about details on how the plan should be implemented.

According to recent census data, there are just over 70 million children under the age of 18. At the current price of SpaceX stock, the stock package for such a gift to them would be worth more than ten billion dollars. Musk’s assets are currently estimated by the financial service Bloomberg at a good 900 billion dollars. It consists mainly of shares of SpaceX and the electric car manufacturer Tesla, which he also runs.

One trigger for Musk’s push seems to be the announcement by AI firm Anthropic over the weekend that they will initially put five percent of their shares in a fund designed to benefit the public good. Musk then wrote at X that he recommends transferring shares directly to the public.

SpaceX stock initially took off after the initial public offering in June – but is now far from the highs beyond the $ 200 mark with prices below $150. There are still doubts about the current valuation of 1.9 trillion dollars. Because the rocket business is currently relatively small, and the valuation is rather an advance of the stock market on Musk promised successes in artificial intelligence.
