GoTo Release Model LLM 27B, understand Indonesian to the region
GoTo launched Large Language Model (LLM) with 27 billion parameters, designed to understand Indonesia and the region. Support local AI innovation.
PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk. Along with the vision of Indonesia Digital 2045, GoTo launched Large Language Model (LLM) designed specifically to recognize Indonesian language and a number of local languages.
GoTo officially launched the LLM with 27 billion parameters in Bali Tech Week and launched Monday (19 / 10). This model is specifically designed to be more sensitive to the local context, including the ability to understand the language of areas like Java, Sunda, Bali and Batak.
The CEO of the GoTo Group, Hans Patuwo, relaying Indonesia should not only be the user of foreign AI technology, but should also be able to develop AI technology itself to answer our local challenges and needs of wisdom.
"AI designed for global use does not necessarily fully understand the style of writing and the verb of Indonesian society, both for days and for languages spoken by many since childhood. In GoTo, we answered this challenge by developing an AI that users can use in our ecosystem," Hans says in writing, Tuesday (20 / 10 / 2026).
Hans assessed free access to this AI model could open a wider window for Al technology development in Indonesia.
"The GoTo Steps released this model for free for startup to public agencies in line with the 2045 Indonesian Visions of the Ministry of Communication and Digital to create an inclusive, collaborative, digital ecosystem. It also supports the presence of sovereign Indonesia, advanced and sustainable by pushing the transformation of the nation from user to user to Al technology creator," he said.
Hans explained that opening the AI model to public soil is a form of corporate dedication to the nation to provide the foundation of AI development that governs local wisdom for anyone in Indonesia.
In its development, the LLM is trained with Indonesian text data and regional language from various sources, from media, public sites to college partners.
GoTo also involved students of the seven universities in Indonesia to cooperate with the internal team in establishing the AI model.
From the spec side, this model with 27 billion parameters is designed to keep light when used. Startup, campus, or institutions can run this system on their own servers without having to rely on large-scale data centers.
This technology can be used to make features, like answering questions, summarize documents, to translate languages.
According to Hans, the Al global system is often having difficulty understanding the way Indonesian people communicate everyday, such as recognizing the acronym or the language of the region used at home. Therefore, through the launch of LLM, GoTo wants to provide a more relevant Al foundation and fit the characteristics of local users.
