I Kadek Dwi Purwana Yasa secured Indonesia’s second gold medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Tuesday (20 October).
The 18-year-old athlete, born in Mengwi, Badung, Bali, competed in the men’s F57 discus throw event.
Kadek Dwi’s throw of 49.75 metres proved unbeatable by his rivals, including Yorkinbek Odilov from Uzbekistan.
Odilov had to settle for the silver medal as his throw only reached 45.1 metres – 4.65 metres shorter than Kadek Dwi’s mark.
Meanwhile, the bronze medallist was the Iraqi athlete, Hussein Khazaee, with a throw of 45.06 metres.
Not only did Kadek Dwi win gold at the Asian Para Games, but he also broke the world record that he had previously set himself.
Kadek Dwi had previously set a world record with a throw of 48.68 metres, achieved at a competition in Tlaxcala, Mexico, earlier this year.
Kadek Dwi also automatically set a new Asian Para Games record, breaking the previous mark of 47.77 metres held by the Chinese athlete Guo Shan Wu.
With Kadek’s additional gold, Indonesia has now secured two golds, three silvers and 14 bronzes.
The first gold came from swimmer Maulana Rifky Yavianda, who competed in the men’s 100-metre freestyle S12 event.
