The MT Melsungen has not renewed the contract of their handball giant Dainis Kristopans (2.15 meters!). For this, Erik Persson was brought a return player from league competitor Göppingen. The MT Melsungen has signed the back room player Erik Persson from Bundesliga competitor Frisch Auf Göppingen. The North Hessen announced on Tuesday afternoon. The 28-year-old Swede comes free of charge in the summer and receives a contract with the MT until June 2029. Together with Nikolaj Enderleit, whose working paper was recently extended, Persson will form the duo in the right back room in the future. “Erik exactly meets our requirement profile for the position,” said MT Sports Board member Jesper Larsson. Persson came in the previous Bundesliga season for Göppingen on a total of 26 goals. "He has a strong throw, is dynamic and brings the necessary physique to take responsibility in the defense." Persson fit "very well" to the game idea of coach Jaron Siewert. Handball giant Melsungen Dainis Kristopans will leave the MT after this season. The contract of the currently injured Latvian back room player, which expires in the summer of 2027, will not be extended, it said in the press release of MT Melsungen. Dainis has done a lot for the MT in recent years and was an important part of our team. He played a major role in winning the title in the EHF European League, said Larsson. Kristopans, who was always an eye-catcher at the MT with his height of 2.15 meters, had to undergo knee surgery at the end of September and falls out until November, possibly even until the end of the year. Thus, Kristopans is also missing in the important Champions League game on Thursday against Wisla Plock (18.45 clock).
