A former Malaysian team player, Azlan Johar called a foreign coach not a guarantee of making Tiger Malaya successful in the international stage.
Recently numerous reports mentioned Malaysia's offer was denied a Japanese coach, Hajime Moriyasu.
The rejection led Azlan Johar to hope that the Malaysian Football Association didn't rely too much on foreign coaching.
Quoted from Daily News, Azlan wants FAM focused on building the reputation and credibility of the Malaysian team by exploiting the local coach.
In Azlan's eyes, having great expectations of a foreign coach need to be evaluated thoroughly. Given the tempting salary and the cost of recruiting foreign coaches does not guarantee international success.
"As a former national team player, I don't think we should overview foreign coaches. On paper, they may seem impressive with advanced theories and tactics, but in fact, results in the field are often far from hope," said Azlan.
"Many of them came here especially for financial rewards and various facilities offered. We serve them very well and give them a great incentive, but once there's a problem - or there's a more profitable offer from elsewhere - they go immediately without thinking," Azlan adds.
On that occasion Azlan also mentioned the loyalty of a minor foreign coach, especially when Malaysia was in trouble.
"Look at the cases of foreign coaches before; we gave everything they asked for, much more than given to local coaches - but when there was another offer, they chose to leave the team," the tip.
The one thing Azlan highlighted was, Malaysia's lack of achievement when trained foreign coaches. That's why local trainers are considered the best choice for Tiger Malaya.
"History clearly suggests that the last time we had the joy of being champions was when the team was handled by local coach, like Grandpa K. Rajakbal and Grandpa Kim Swee."
"The ranks of foreign trainers we've had in the past have never once presented a prestigious trophy for this country. Therefore, I think it's much more appropriate that we put our trust in the local coach that we already have," Azlan's story.
