Nvidia: Federal government and CEO Huang seal AI cooperation

Federal Chancellor Merz and Nvidia CEO Huang at the “Invest in Germany” summit in Berlin

The Federal Government and the US technology group Nvidia want to massively promote the industrial use of artificial intelligence in Germany and have now agreed on closer cooperation. As Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang reaffirmed on the sidelines of the first “Invest in Germany” summit in Berlin, the combination of German engineering and cutting-edge AI technology should strengthen the business location in the long term.

The aim of the cooperation is to accelerate the digital transformation of German industry, especially SMEs, and to secure the country’s technological sovereignty.

Last week, the “Handelsblatt” had already reported that the German government was ready to invest a three-digit million amount in a joint project with Nvidia. Nvidia plans, among other things, to hire engineers for the project. About a dozen German companies will participate in the project, including Siemens, Audi and the AI company Black Forest Labs.

Merz now stressed that Germany is acting from a position of strength despite geopolitical and economic challenges. He called on companies to open their valuable industry data to AI applications in order to maintain the competitiveness of manufacturing, engineering and the automotive industry. For him, maintaining the industrial base is a decisive advantage over other economies.

“Germany is open for investment, Germany is open for business – and Germany is ready to grow faster,” Merz said, speaking of a new era of investment in Germany.

Nvidia has invested almost one billion dollars in Germany last year and is involved in numerous start-ups and established companies. Huang, who has led Nvidia since 1993, emphasized his company’s trust in the site. He argued that data should be understood as a national resource, which should not be exported, but used domestically to develop its own “national intelligence”.

The Nvidia chief warned people and companies in Germany against giving up their knowledge and cultural values in order to buy them back later as imported intelligence. AI should complement and scale the expertise of German engineers, not replace it.

Jensen Huang leads Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company. He thinks nothing of AI horror scenarios – so he has become the important ally of Donald Trump. Why there is much more behind the bromance, read here.

Amazon deforestation: The chainsaws are quieter

Shortly before the presidential election, Brazil reports the lowest clearing rate since measurements began. The figure is correct. But it says little about the state of the forest.

Germans like noodles - preferably from abroad

The consumption of noodles in this country has doubled since 1990. Germany is also one of the largest producers in the EU. The undisputed leader is Italy, followed by Spain.
