Jordan Pickford headed straight to Paris for a holiday after the match against Chelsea last weekend. The Everton goalkeeper was unaware that there were massive demonstrations taking place in France.
Pickford, who played as Everton were beaten 0–2 by Chelsea at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday (17 October), set off on holiday the very next day. The 32-year-old goalkeeper flew to Paris with his wife, Megan.
The couple had planned to attend a Celine Dion concert. Pickford and Megan were apparently unaware that France was in the midst of massive demonstrations.
In a post on TikTok, Meghan revealed she was unaware of the protests. “My husband and I arrived in Paris. We had absolutely no idea the capital was in chaos,” she wrote on TikTok.
France was rocked by protests throughout last weekend. The high cost of living and poor educational facilities fuelled the anger of hundreds of thousands of demonstrators, mostly young people, who took to the streets.
The demonstrations spread to dozens of cities, with protesters ‘setting fire to’ buildings and looting luxury goods from shops. Police were deployed to quell the unrest, with reports that as many as 1,200 people were arrested.
It appears that Pickford and his wife were caught up in the unrest. Nevertheless, both were safe and were able to return to their hotel after attending the concert.
“Then, when our driver came to collect us, he advised us to head straight back to the hotel,” wrote Jordan Pickford’s wife.
