Premier League: Brighton & Hove Albion meets from the middle line – Fabian Hürzeler’s team now second

When Diego Gómez got the ball at the centerline, he had apparently already seen that Walter Benítez, the goalkeeper of Crystal Palace, was a tick too far in front of his goal. Gómez shot directly at it from a good 50 meters.

It was a goal for every year’s review, but only one of five on that day: Gómez scored 2-0 in Brighton & Hove Albion’s 5-0 win over Palace in the Premier League. A feat, fit for a team that is shaking up English football.

For the time being, coach Fabian Hürzeler’s team is in second and five points behind Manchester City. Arsenal FC could still pass Brighton on this seventh matchday. The arsenal that recently lost only 0-3 to the Hürzeler team.

After the early own goal of Palace player Jaydee Canvot in the 4th. The remote shot of Gómez in the 7th minute and a hit by Yasin Ayari provided an interim 3:0 after only ten minutes. Charalambos Kostoulas (49 minutes) and Jack Hinshelwood (84 minutes) scored further goals in Brighton’s 5-0 victory.

Coach Hürzeler: early success coach at FC St. Pauli

In 2024, Hürzeler, 33, led FC St. Pauli to the Bundesliga before he moved directly to England. He is now in his third season with Brighton. In the first two seasons, his team took eighth place in the Premier League.

One of Hürzeler’s most important players is Pascal Groß, who took part in the World Cup in North America with Germany, but played only a supporting role there. This season, the 35-year-old has already scored eight goals after seven league games: He scored three goals himself, five more he prepared. The other pillars of the team also include 19-year-old Luka Vušković, who was still active in the internal defence of the Hamburger SV last year.
