Debutante on the US Theatre, La Negra Ball

One of the movies in the next 2027 award season, La Negra Ball, has a box office number called impressive.

The film in Cannes Film Festival 2026 and it was purchased by Netflix in four of those streaming theaters in the United States, as a condition to get a list to the next Academy Awards.

Now, for the first time Netflix reported the box office number, the Spanish movie included US $277,500 only from four theaters, with a average US $69,375 per location.

Variety called, it's a remarkable number because it's the second highest-screen income average for foreign-speaking movies known as non-English.

The La Bola number is right behind the Parasite (2019) film which includes US $393.216 of the three theaters, with US average $131,072 per location.

This result is also the highest average average per screen, which is the main measure for arthouse movies, for an Spanish-speaking movie.

By comparison, the thriller of the multilingual law of Cannes Film Festival 2026, Fjord whose distribution rights were purchased by Neon, also released last week and earned US $124,000 from four theaters, or average US $31,000 per location.

Variety called, now the challenge is whether or not La Bul Negra can maintain that momentum as well as Netflix's steps are expanding the range of this film's screening over the next few weeks.

Netflix is planning to show this film in a movie for 45 days which is the standard duration of the postmortem and the longest-running period the company has ever done before it was released in their platform on December 2.

La Negra Ball or The Black Ball is a film directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, based on a script they wrote with Alberto Conejero.

The epos queen is inspired by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, who is not familiar with the same title, as well as the Drama La piedra oscura by Conejero.

La Negra Ball starred by Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Penélope Cruz, and Glenn Close.

This film is set across the year, from 1932, 1937, and 2017, with an exploration narrative between three gay men and lorca's work.

This is the premiere of the Cannes Cup of the 79th Film Festival on May 21, 2026, and delivering Calvo and Ambossi to the Best Director Award.

La Negra Ball was selected as a representative of Spain for Best International Feature in the 2027 Oscar Cup. In his home country, Spain, this film includes a strong box office performance.
