Union Berlin: Who-will-millionaire candidate does not know coach Mauro Lustrinelli

Does FC Union Berlin have a new head coach? Should “Igor Spassikowski” lead the Köpenicker to class preservation in the Bundesliga? In any case, this answer was given by a candidate in the RTL quiz show “Who will become a millionaire?” with moderator Günther Jauch and therefore failed on the 2000 Euro question.

Because the coach of the Berliners since this season is the Swiss Mauro Lustrinelli. “I went through the football coaches again, but I don’t have the name in my head right now,” said candidate Noah Petrik when he saw the question. “Are the people so called?” he asked towards Jauch. He said, “One of them is called that.”

Petrik then had to use one of his phone jokers, who, in his own words, was a football fan, that was “but also a bit ago, I say now”. In the third answer, Erling Gaudigaard, he asked again.

In the end, he led Petrik on the wrong track, that of “Igor Spassikowski”. The 26-year-old suspected his failure then already in the tormented look of Jauch and fell back to 500 euros (the episode can be seen here).

The Bundesliga football team took it with humor. On Instagram, the Berliners posted a screenshot of the question, including a photo of Lustrinelli, commented with: “Answer: D.”

Lustrinelli himself understands the candidate. The question is difficult, if you are not familiar with the topic, the coach is quoted in »Bild«. “Many people sent me this last night, today everyone is talking about it.” I find it funny, even the name suggestions. There are nice ideas, Lustrinelli said and invited the unfortunate candidate to a home game.

The 50-year-old Swiss comes from FC Thun, with whom he was promoted to the Super League in the 2024/2025 season before the club under him surprisingly won the championship title last season. After the impressive coup, he had also been courted by clubs from Italy. At Union, he followed the first female coach in Bundesliga history, Marie-Louise Eta.
