Fire Land Sails Canadian Military Base, 4 Dead
Four military members were killed fire struck a grazing training area and spread rapidly due to strong winds in the Canadian military base.
Four Canadian military members were killed and dozens injured after the fire hit the grazing training area and spread rapidly through the high winds in Alberta Province.
The Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, calls this event one of the worst tragedies for armed forces in the Canadian region during peace.
In the BBC, a fire occurred on Saturday around 4: 00 p.m. local time at Wainwright Canadian Armed Base. The base is the busiest military base in the country. The fire itself has been successfully controlled.
"This nation is mourning the loss of brave members of our armed forces," said Carney.
Major General Wade Rutland says a number of infantry members are conducting "high-intensity combat training with sharp ammunition" in grenade training areas and attack areas. At that location, about 10 soldiers are training to attack the enemy.
"There are all kinds of weapons used in Wainwright training areas including grenade launchers, grenades, small arms, and ammunition," said Rutland.
The land fire started about a kilometer from the location, then headed for the strike area.
"What I can tell you is that there were various training activities that were taking place all over the area at the time. A very strong wind caused the fire to spread rapidly and shift direction towards the administrative area of the training place," its end.
Mayor Wainwright, Bruce Pugh, admitted to hearing cannon fire from the base before it finally stopped suddenly. But he said the cannon fire at the site was not unusual.
BBC confirms the death toll in the incident among Sergeant Morgan Wong, Private Shaun Farrell, Private Aidan Goulding, and Private Hayden Lykarik.
In the meantime of 39 injured and currently hospitalized, at least 19 people are in critical condition. The injured in the training area are the reserve soldiers and soldiers of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry regiment.
The Canadian Armed Forces declared that even though this incident was still under investigation, there was no indication that it was a result of terrorist activity.
