Geger shooting near the Mosque, eating a fatality
The shooting near a mosque in Columbus, Ohio, killed one man. Police confirm the incident was not an attack on any mosque or congregation inside.
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - shooting near a mosque in Columbus, Ohio, the United States, killed one person on Monday (19 / 10 / 2026) local time. The police confirmed the incident was not an attack on the mosque or the people in it.
Sergeant James Fuqua of the local police department says the shooting began in a dispute in an apartment building adjacent to the mosque. It happened in the apartment complex parking lot.
"We want to confirm that this is not an attack on the mosque," said Fuqua, as the Associated Press quoted Tuesday (20 / 10 / 2026).
According to Fuqua, when the shooting occurred, an activity was underway inside the mosque. However, these activities have nothing to do with the incidents outside the building.
Federal authorities and local police came to the scene after the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and the US Explosives (ATF) announced that his agent was responding to a report of a shooting in the mosque area in 2200 Albert Avenue, Columbus.
The initial ATF information says a report of a shooting occurred in a mosque. However, the police later clarified that the shooting site is actually in the complex parking area of the apartment next to the temple.
The ATF has not yet responded when further questioning. Meanwhile, police confirmed that the incident did not target the mosque or congregation that was in it.
