Annoying to see the ad on his parents' TV smart, a developer named Gathin found an unusual solution. He used Claude Code's artificial intelligence to clean up the built-in apps and turn television into Apple TV.

Interestingly, the entire modification process was claimed only one afternoon. With Al's help, Gathin managed to disable 25 of Xiaomi's software packages and create a simpler new interface without a list of disturbing ads.

The story was shared by Gathin through an X @ gathint account. He claimed to be disturbed because his parents had to look at the advertisement on the television screen before he could even open Netflix.

Alih-instead of looking for a replacement application, Gathin is using Claude Code, Anthropic's AI programming assistant, to create his own solution.

The experiment began by giving Claude Code a TV number.

The ADB is a development facility that allows computers to access and manage the Android device via a specific command.

Through those connections, Claude Code helped identify and disable 25 software packages of Xiaomi, including the built-in services associated with advertising and analytics.

Gathin then asked AI to create new launchers, which is the main interface that appears when users operate television.

The result is a minimal display of Apple TV, complete with a dark background, large-sized clock, and a string of easy-to-reach applications.

The user can instantly open the desired application without having to pass various content recommendations and promotions on the default Xiaomi main screen.

Even so, the TV is still using the Android TV operating system, which turns into an interface and a number of basic services, not an Apple device with a tvOS operating system.

The Launcher was designed lightly, even for a TV Android device with RAM 1 GB. The modification process also does not require root access or special firmware installations.

According to GitHub documentation, this project can be tried on various TV and Google TV Android devices, including Xiaomi, TCL, Sony, and Hysense. However, his compatibility depends on the software model and version.

The transformation was also designed to be undone. Despite that, users still need to be careful because disabling the wrong system applications is potentially interfering with television.
